Photo and Filming Tips

Our top tips for your virtual submissions

FILM IN LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION
Wherever possible, film in landscape this way everyone’s films will be the same size and look better on screen.

STABILISE
Use something to prop the phone or camera up, if someone’s holding the camera use both hands to avoid shaky footage.

FILM IN HD
Film in the highest resolution possible. 1080 or 4k if you can.

LIGHTING
Ensure that your scene is well lit but try to avoid shooting directly into the sun or with a window behind you. Find your light.

CONSIDER AUDIO
Try to film somewhere without distracting background noise, turn off tv’s and music.

EYE-LEVEL
Footage always looks best at eye-level, get down low to film kids and dogs!

DON’T USE DIGITAL ZOOM
Move the camera closer instead!
