Sav Rodgers unpacks the complex legacy of Chasing Amy

In late 2018, Kansas-born Sav Rodgers gave a TED talk in New York about his affinity for Ben Affleck movies, with one in particular that he became near-obsessed with: Kevin Smith’s 1997 rom-com Chasing Amy. Through this film, Rodgers saw queer representation in film for the first time, which ultimately saved his life.

Flash forward, and Sav is invited by director Kevin Smith to visit his L.A. home, discuss the film, and begin shooting interviews that would eventually become part of Chasing Chasing Amy. But as he gets closer to the people who inspired him, he uncovers a more troubling history behind the production of Smith’s film.

You don’t need to have seen Chasing Amy to appreciate Rodgers’ film, but we’re delighted to provide our audience with the option to preface the doc with the narrative that inspired it – a very special double bill only at Queer Vision.
