A tender, new narrative from an emerging cinematic voice

After the passing of his father, Anand (Bhushaan Manoj) leaves his bustling life in Mumbai behind, returning to his ancestral village for the traditional mourning period.

Though his parents have accepted his sexuality, Anand’s extended family are unaware. Before long, the mounting expectations of marriage resurface for Anand, and his only reprieve lies in reconnecting with his childhood friend, Balya (Suraaj Suman).

Directed by Rohan Kanawade, this Marathi-language film draws upon aspects of the filmmaker’s own life, and is shot on location in the village where his mother was raised. Cactus Pears has already shone on the festival circuit, picking up the prestigious World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival 2025, and we’re delighted to be presenting Kanawade’s delicate feature debut as he embarks upon a Q&A tour of the UK.
