Calling all “satanists, homosexuals, and other dangerous cults” … Queer Vision and Twentieth Century Flicks in partnership with SWITCH are proud to present a rare opportunity to see Gregg Araki’s (Mysterious Skin) breakthrough cult classic on the biggest screen in Bristol, in a stunning new
4K restoration for its thirtieth anniversary, sandwiched with some additional, exciting, and highly-classified surprises to be unveiled on the night.
Araki’s day-glo crime comedy stars Rose McGowan (Jawbreaker) and James Duvall (Donnie Darko) as two cynical teenagers in love (though that can mean a lot of things), navigating the vast consumerist wasteland of post-modern America. After encountering mysterious drifter Xavier “X” Red – at a gas station stop for hotdogs and soda – the couple’s aimless dynamic quickly shifts to a blood-splattered, anarchistic ménage à trois, evading the law, jilted ex-lovers, and other unsavoury characters along the way.
Boasting some incredible cameo appearances from Margaret Cho, Parker Posey, and Heidi
Fleiss, and an all-timer Araki soundtrack of ‘90s grunge, industrial, and shoegaze sounds, The Doom Generation is an assured, hyper-stylised melting pot of angst, sex, and violence as timely now as it ever was.
