This distinctively cinematic comedy-drama from the formidable Miranda July is about parents and children, family bonds and unity.
A trio of desperate scammers: Theresa (Debra Winger), Robert (Richard Jenkins) and their daughter, Old Dolio (Evan Rachel Wood), swindle, scam, and steal at every opportunity. During a desperate heist, they charm stranger Melanie (a magnetic Gina Rodriguez) into joining their family, only to have their entire world turned upside down.
Miranda July’s idiosyncratic comedy drama uses surrealism (and excellent choreography!) as a way of facing present-day realities, offering a metaphorical vision of a world out of whack, a vicious cycle that links economic despair, embittered nostalgia, and wanton cruelty, all tempered by July’s distinct aesthetic imagination.
Don’t miss the special pre-screening Performance from Roseanna Anderson (co-founder and director of Impermanence). Follow the link to book your free Performance ticket when you book your ticket for the film.
