The Miseducation of Cameron Post | Fri 6 July
Queer Vision Presents: The Miseducation of Cameron Post | Fri 6 July | 840pm Watershed
We are so excited to have secured a special preview screening of this film, especially for Pride.
Cameron is a teen in love with one of her female classmates. When the pair get caught in a moment of intimacy at a high-school dance she is quickly packed up and sent off to “pray away the gay.”
Subjected to outlandish discipline, dubious “de-gaying” methods, and earnest Christian rock songs this unusual setting also provides her with an unlikely gay community. For the first time, Cameron connects with peers, and she’s able to find her place among fellow outcasts.
Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, (500) Days of Summer) delivers an outstanding performance as does the ‘bad kids’ that she fall in with, Adam (Forrest Goodluck), and a girl who goes by the name ‘Jane Fonda’ (Sasha Lane). There are moments of humour but it’s never joking. This is a serious, poignant and compassionate LGBT+ story.
A lot of LGBT+ films get called important and vital, we feel this one truly is. As the conversations around conversion therapy still rages on and our own government refuses to ban it in the UK this is film that will speak to so many, especially the up and coming generation.
With thanks to the Watershed.
