Queer Vision Film festival, presented by Bristol Pride, delivers a diverse programme of UK & International LGBTQIA+ films including independently-made feature, animation and award-winning short films.
Queer Vision Film Festival screenings run during Bristol Pride Festival from 29th June- 14th July 2024. Our focus is on widening engagement, increasing audience viewing and screening opportunities of and for LGBTQIA+ content films and filmmakers.
Queer Vision Best South West Shorts
Queer Vision in Bristol are a nominating partner of the Iris Prize Best British Short.
We are looking for an LGBT+ short film to nominate from the South West region.
Category Rules
All entries must be 39 minutes or less, and should be for, about or of interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex audiences, and must have been completed within 2 years prior to the submission deadline (between 1 June 2022 and 2 June 2024).
Films of all types are accepted, including animation and documentary.
There are no restrictions regarding short films that have previously been or are currently available online, or which have been broadcast on television.
A shortlist of 35 entries will be selected to compete for the Iris Prize and screen as part of the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Iris partner festivals will nominate 20 of the shorts, and 15 will be selected from open submissions by a pre-selection jury.
Exhibition Format
Films will be screened in 1.85 flat, and 2.35 scope. A DCP is requested for our in-person screenings in cinemas but a digital file is also required – preferably H.264 with stereo sound mix in a .mov or mpeg container.
Works in languages other than English or Welsh must be subtitled for exhibition. English subtitles are strongly preferred for online screeners, but works without subtitles will be viewed for consideration.

To be eligible to make our shortlist of films to be screened as part of Queer Vision Film Festival, during the Bristol Pride Festival, you should be permanently based in one of these South West counties: Bath & NE Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Isles of Scilly, Isle of Wight, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Southampton, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Torbay or Wiltshire.
Films will be chosen to be shown at Queer Vision Film Festival 2024.
FILM FORMAT: DCP (preferred), .MOV, .MPEG. We ONLY accept on-line screeners via FilmFreeway secure screener. We do not accept DVDs/Blu-Rays.
PRESS KIT: A digital press kit will be required after acceptance.
Queer Vision aim to make their screenings as accessible as possible. By submitting your film to Queer Vision Film Festival it is on the agreement that the film may be shown with Descriptive Subtitling to make the screening accessible to Deaf/deaf and hearing-impaired audience members. Where possible a transcript of the film may be requested after acceptance.
The juries will comprise of Queer Vision programmers and invited film professionals. The decision of the juries, the festival and the audience will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Successful entrants will be informed that their work has been shortlisted by 26 April 2024. Please do not enquire about acceptance until then.
