Pride is a protest! We use our political voice to amplify LGBT+ voices in Bristol and beyond. We welcome everyone who wants to celebrate, champion and progress LGBT+ and human rights to join us. Bristol Pride Parade relies on volunteers to ensure the successful running of the parade and to ensure the safety of those who attend. We’ll provide a full brief in advance to make sure you know where you’ll be and what you’ll be doing.
Parade Static Stewards
This is a great role if you want to see the whole parade. You’ll be working with our traffic management team on our road closures and ensuring that people are able to enjoy the parade safely. You’ll be a vital representative of Pride and you’ll be buddied up to support key points along the parade.
Parade Walking Stewards
This is a fun and engaging role that means you can still take part in the parade whilst helping to keep it moving. You will be placed in amongst the parade, walking with it ensuring that everyone keeps to the right side of the road and that the parade keeps moving swiftly. If you have a keen eye for safety and want to be involved in the parade, this role is for you.
Parade Samba Band Steward
This is a role for someone with confidence and an appreciation for the art of drumming. You’ll be allocated to march along with one of our fabulous samba bands to ensure everyone stays safe, and continue moving along.
Parade Supervisors
We are looking for 8 volunteers who can support our parade coordination team to keep the parade together and moving. You’ll be working as a team to flag any gaps and issues, and ensuring people leave Castle Park in a timely way. You’ll need to be confident and have good communication skills for this role. Ideally, you’ll have volunteered with the parade or similar events before, but this is not essential.
We are looking for volunteers to support our Youth Area at Bristol Pride. Every year we create a safe, friendly, fun and non-alcoholic space for young people and by young people. This is an opportunity for young people at pride to celebrate, make new friends and get involved in fun and engaging activities. The youth area is run by experienced LGBTQ+ youth workers and hosts a programme of activities informed by young people themselves. This years’ activities will include craft activities, group games and some workshops for young people to get involved in.
You need to have a current DBS Certificate.
Our Access Champions are here to support those with access requirements to fully enjoy Bristol Pride. They do this by supporting a number of functions across the site such as overseeing our viewing platforms and helping to keep our access routes clear, welcoming people and wristbanding on our accessible gate and roaming around the site as a point of contact for anyone who might have questions or need support.
You will be part of a team of people providing support to those who need it and will be supported by our Access Coordinator who is responsible for accessibility on site. Ahead of Pride Day, you will be invited to a briefing and we will organise who will be positioned where and at what time.
Volunteer with our Decor Coordinator to make the site look and feel fantastic. You could be touching up the old signs with a lick of paint, putting up bunting, banners and dressing the stage in preparation for our big day. You’ll need good mobility for getting around the site and have a creative eye for detail.
We are looking for volunteers to support our Family Area at Bristol Pride. Every year we create a safe, friendly, fun for younger children. The family area houses various play and craft activities as well as Drag Story Time. You’ll be a representative of Pride in this area and support families with any questions or concerns, working alongside the welfare team who manage any lost or found children.
You need to have a current DBS Certificate.
This role is at the heart of the action on our festival site. You will be stationed at the Circus tent, handing out and collecting headsets for the Pride silent disco. You will get to dance along and enjoy the party vibes.
The Pride Hub opens on Monday 8 July until Friday 12 July in the Vestibules Space of City Hall on College Green. It’s open 12-6 and we need volunteers to help in the hub with wristband exchanges, Pride Merch sales and it’s also a space where people can come and pick up a Pride Festival Guide and maybe ask a question or two.
