Helen Marnie is the lead vocalist and songwriters in electronic band Ladytron. Known as Marnie for solo projects Helen joined Ladytron in 1999 alongside Dan Hunt, Reuben Wu and Mira Aroyo. The group found widespread international success with singles such as Playgirl, Seventeen, Destroy Everything You Touch, Ghosts and Ace of Hz, releasing five albums between 2001 and 2011.
Recorded in Reykjavik and produced by Dan Hunt, Marnie released her first solo album, Crystal World in 2013. “I knew I wanted it to be quite pop and song based” Helen explains “I also wanted it to be more personal and emotive, which I hope comes across. It’s not a dance album. Parts of it are serene and beautiful, others are dark. It’s like a landscape that changes over time.”
We look forward to hearing pulsing lead track The Hunter which was released with remixes by Roman Nose, Mark Reeder and Stephen Morris (Joy Division/New Order) and last year Helen began working with Jonny Scott of Strike the Colours and The Kills so we can expect some new material such as the single Wolves which will be released as a 7″ single in April 2015.
A quartet for live shows, Marnie will be performing a string of dates around Europe during 2015 whilst writing her second album schedule for release in 2016 so we are very proud to be bring this electronic pop icon to Bristol for Pride.
