Pride Day on Saturday 13th July will once see a free outdoor cultural music and arts festival take place in Castle Park as a culmination to a week of events across Bristol that will also see a theatre, a film festival at the Watershed and a sing along Mamma Mia screening in the Showcase Cinema de Lux.
Over 20,000 people attended Bristol Pride in 2012 attracting supporters and party goers from all over the UK and winning a string of awards including: ‘Best Community Event’ voted for by BCFM ShoutOut radio listeners and ‘Runner Up Best UK Pride’ in the National Student Awards.
Acts already announced include Bristol talent that have seen national success such as Jelli Records Bashema, Wildflowers and Anttix alongside other national artists such as girl band Vanquish, Xfactor’s Ruth Lorenzo and ‘I Wanna Give You Devotion’ rap star MC Mikee. Previously headlined by the likes of Sonique, KELIS and Marth Wash we’re keeping a tight lid on our headline acts for the Day Festival and the official after party which will again be held at the O2 Academy.
Did you know we don’t get funding? I know, crazy right?!
Bristol Pride has been growing year on year and we bring thousands of people to the city which boosts the economy but we want to keep Pride a free event for all to attend and enjoy so team all work as volunteers juggling day jobs and dodging nights out to work or because they can’t afford it so we so it can be.
We really are relying on the support from sponsors and donations from the public! We’re asking businesses to support Pride and for those that can afford it to buy a supporter wristband which is just £5 which will get them discounts onsite on food and at the bar and the more we get in advance the more we can put back into the festival and support our 2013 charity The Albert Kennedy Trust.
Attracting high profile support from celebrities such as Stephen Fry, Graham Norton, Matt Lucas and Catherine Johnson Bristol Pride is a bold celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community across the South West and is the chance for community to come together to show support and to show those that at times feel isolated, alone and bullied that they are not alone.
